Editor's Desk Continued from page 1A you had better blow those out in the future after night services or your church door will be forced open.” Our final greeting was a mutual “Mepry Christmas.” Christmas in the small par ishes, such as St Catherine’s at Wake Forest, left its unique im pression. The parish was small but the people’s hearts were big. Someone usually had a house warming after the midnight Mass to which all were invited. Of course, the priest is the only one who has to get up early the-next morning. Making the rounds at one thirty is happy exhaustion but a joy to be a part of each group. Makes A Difference The parochial school at Our Lady of Mercy at Winston Sa lem and Immaculate Heart of Mary at High Point added much to the delight of the season. In the former assignment a beauti ful all Latin Mass was learned by the school children and adults who joined voices together at midnight A High Point experi ence was the year that an ice storm hit the city and power was knocked out for more than 24 hours. Offering Mass in a cold church with only candles for a light, but having no one in the parish miss Mass, was truly an unforgettable religious experi ence. And now back to the big city again, but in a different way. The meaningful liturgy of the sung Mass in English accom panied by organ and two trum pets and congregational singing is far different from my first Christmas Day as a priest 25 years ago. I wouldn’t want to go back, but on the other hand I wouldn’t.want to trade anyone of those Christmases with one an other. Each Christmas has its own distinct character and for us each one has been a great “hap py exhaustion.” We extend the good wishes of the Editor’s Desk to all our faith ful subscribers that they too will experience happy recollections of Christmases past and find this one sustaining them with many blessings.
